“Joseph Zhou is the Americas CISO, Global Head of Security Engineering and Product Security at SHEIN, where he has served since January 2024. He describes himself as a “”Methodically Paranoid Security Leader”” and focuses on building resilience and AI-powered platforms that address complex security, privacy, and compliance challenges. Before joining SHEIN, Joseph served as Head of Information Security for Cloud Compute at Akamai Technologies, a role that evolved from his position as CISO at Linode, where he led all aspects of security risk management until Akamai acquired the company in 2022. Prior to Linode, he held CISO roles at Evive (where he oversaw SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and HITRUST compliance) and Transworld Systems. Earlier in his career, he held engineering and architecture leadership roles at Motorola and other technology companies. Joseph holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Master of Computer Science from the University of Minnesota, and completed Carnegie Mellon University’s CISO Certificate Program. He is also a seed investor and advisor at Stacksville. Outside of work, Joseph is a committed endurance athlete — a marathoner (including the Boston Marathon) and Ironman competitor — and credits distance running with building the mental toughness he applies to security leadership.”
