Question 1: What motivates you to attend Kodi Connect events?
The conversations. Security leaders are usually solving the same problems at the same time, and an off-the-record room is one of the few places where we can compare notes honestly. I go in wanting to leave with at least one idea I can put to work the next week.
Question 2: What was your reason for joining the Kodi Connect Advisory Board?
I have learned a lot from peers over the years, and I wanted to give some of that back. Identity and AI security are changing quickly, and I would like to help bring practical topics to the table that the people in the room can use.
Question 3: What’s one major trend shaping the future of IT and cybersecurity over the next few years?
AI agents becoming part of the workforce. Companies are rolling out agents that can read data, call systems, and take action, often faster than they can govern them. Everyone of those agents needs an identity, a clear owner, limits on what it can do, and a way to shut it off, just like an employee. Identity is going to be the main control point for AI.
Question 4: What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self starting in tech?
Learn the business, not just the technology. The projects that worked best for me were the ones where I understood what the other team was trying to get done and made security help them get there. And write things down. A clear one-page plan wins more support than a long technical deck.
Question 5: How do you see AI reshaping the role of IT and security teams?
AI is taking over a lot of the sorting and first-pass analysis that used to eat up a team's week. In my own work, I use it to go through large sets of access and security findings and turn them into clear, prioritized work for the people who own the fix. The judgment stays with people. A person still approves every change, and that part should not be automated away.
Bonus Question 6: What’s the best example of “small change, big impact” you’ve seen in tech?
Putting a name next to every service account and secret. It sounds basic, but once each one has a clear owner, cleanup stops being a project nobody wants and becomes a short list each team can work through. That one change did more to shrink our backlog than any new tool.
Bonus Question 7: How do you disconnect and recharge outside of work?
Time with my wife and our two kids comes first. Outside of that, I run, lift weights, play chess, and develop consumer apps.
Kodi Connect Key Takeaways:
- AI agent security requires identity governance and accountability: As AI agents gain access to enterprise data and systems, organizations must establish clear ownership, defined permissions, activity controls, and the ability to revoke access. Identity management is becoming a critical security control for the AI-driven enterprise.
- AI is transforming identity and access management through smarter security operations: AI can help IT and cybersecurity teams analyze large volumes of access data, prioritize security findings, and streamline remediation. However, human oversight and approval remain essential for managing risk and protecting enterprise systems.
- Strong identity security starts with ownership, visibility, and practical governance: Assigning clear owners to service accounts and secrets can improve accountability, reduce security backlogs, and strengthen privileged access management. Simple governance improvements can deliver meaningful security results without requiring new tools.
